Diagnostic Accuracy of tumor marker CA 19-9 in patients with cholangiocarcinoma taking ERCP as gold standard test”

Background: Majority of the cases Cholangiocarcinoma at presentation are unresectable, it’s diagnosis an early stage is pivotal but generally difficult due to lack easy availaibility confirmatory test moment in our country. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) not only helpful reaching Aim: To find out diagnostic accuracy tumour marker CA 19-9, suspected patients taking ERCP as gold standard Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted general and private clinics Department Gastroenterology Fatima Memorial Hospital Lahore from, October 21, 2014 April 20, 2015. Sampling technique used probability purposive sampling. Results: A total 150 cholangiocarcinoma were included which 61 (40.7%) male 89(59.3%) female with mean age 56.32±14.13 years. Among studied patients, 88(58.7%) found positive for malignant stricture on CBD brushing cytology. Sensitivity, specificity 19-9 53.4%, 66.1% 58% respectively. Conclusions: a very important tumor making country access/availability invasive methods like endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) fine needle aspiration (FNA) tumor.
